Packaged SEO. Great Idea Or A False Sense Of Savings?
If you’re tight on money will having a predetermined SEO package actually help you? The bad thing about a package deal is, you pick the package. If you knew exactly what you needed wouldn’t you just do it yourself? If you couldn’t do it yourself… what are the chances you’d find a package to meet you’re specific needs?
Part of SEO is to evaluate and benchmark your current efforts and to formulate a course of action. How do you know what you are ordering is even going to help? You place an order for a package to optimize 10 pages but you have 11 or maybe 7! Maybe, you have 10 pages but some of these pages are pages not needing optimization, such as your contact and privacy pages.
I took a look at many SEO packages online and some offer useless services such as search engine submissions. Some packages offer content creation while others don’t. Some offer link building and some offer directory submissions. Others offer low package deals, but you have to commit to 6 months. The service my tout about it’s low $400 package, which turns into a $2400 at the end of 6 months. Which can be in the range of some SEO campaigns but, if you are going to pay that much wouldn’t you want it customized more to your needs?
If the niche market you are in is very competitive, you may need more link building. Maybe you want a directive on how to research terms to write keyword rich blog posts. Or you maybe you need new pages of content added to compensate for terms your current pages don’t cover. What if you’re pages already rank well and no new content is needed, but your package includes it? You just paid for something you don’t need.
What’s the conclusion? It comes down to your judgment. Find the right package that fits your needs. SEO packages for the most part are for new sites. Providing the site was built with SEO in mind. If you aren’t sure your site was built correctly, then these package deals won’t work for you. Packages I found didn’t mention anything about evaluating a site before starting an SEO effort. When results don’t meet your expectations the blame will be put on you for not picking the right package, so use caution.
